Should the AI reply automatically or wait for my approval?

Compare suggestion mode and autopilot, roll out autopilot safely and switch it off at any time.

Written by Thomas Danninger

Short answer: By default, replient.ai never posts a reply on its own. It prepares AI suggestions in your Comments inbox and you send one with a click (suggestion mode). If you want replies to go out without your approval, turn on autopilot with a comment automation. Most brands start with suggestion mode, then automate only the comments that are safe to answer without a check.

Both modes use the same credits: 0.1 credit to analyse a comment, plus 0.9 credit when the AI writes a reply draft.

Option 1: Suggestion mode (the default)

For every new comment, replient.ai analyses it and writes suggested replies. You review them in Comments:

  1. Open a comment in Comments. The first suggestion is the Favorite answer (1), followed by alternatives (2).

  2. Click Send (3) to post a suggestion as it is, or click Edit (4) to change it first.

  3. Click the circular arrow (5) below the suggestions to get a new set. This costs no extra credits. You can create up to 15 suggestions per comment.

Once you reply, the comment moves to Done (you can turn this off on the Learning page). The AI also learns from every reply you send or edit, so your suggestions get closer to your own style over time.

To work through many comments quickly, use bulk actions. They can send the first AI suggestion to all comments matching a filter. See How can I manage comments in bulk?.

Option 2: Autopilot with a comment automation

With autopilot, a comment automation posts the reply for you after a short, natural delay. There is a ready-made starter for it:

  1. Go to Automations → Comment Automations and click Add Automation.

  2. Choose Comment automation.

  3. Pick the starter Reply to every comment automatically (it is the second card in the list shown below). It replies with the first AI suggestion after a random wait. Nothing goes live until you click Save.

  4. Narrow the rule down (see the rollout plan below), then click Save.

The full editor is explained in How do I set up a comment automation?.

Roll out autopilot safely

⚠️ Important: Autopilot posts public replies in your brand's name without a review. Start with a small, low-risk group of comments and check the results before you widen the rule.

  1. Start in suggestion mode. Use it until you rarely need to edit the suggestions. Improve the results first with custom instructions and your website and documents (see the related articles below).

  2. Start with one platform. In the starter, the condition Platform lists all platforms. Remove all but one.

  3. Start with one kind of comment. Add a second condition, for example Sentiment is one of Positive, or Comment Tags is one of a single tag such as Pricing question. Different conditions must all match.

  4. Keep sensitive comments for yourself. Create a second automation with the condition Comment Tags is one of Complaint, Against brand, Spam and the action Send email notification, and drag it above the autopilot rule. Automations are checked from top to bottom and the first match wins, so these comments skip the autopilot rule. They stay in your inbox with their AI suggestions.

  5. Check the results. On a comment, click Show Activities to see what the automation did. In Comments, filter by Answered by automation. Under Comment analytics, the section Comment Automations Performance shows how each automation runs.

  6. Widen step by step. Add platforms or tags one at a time and check again.

Automations only run on comments that arrive after you saved them. Comments that are already in your inbox stay in suggestion mode.

How to stop autopilot

  • Pause it: Go to Automations → Comment Automations and switch the automation off with the ON/OFF switch on its row. New comments are no longer answered by it. replient.ai checks the rule again when the wait ends, so this also stops replies that are still waiting.

  • Stop a single reply that is waiting: Open the comment. It shows Automation pending for this comment. Click Cancel Automation. Or reply yourself: if you answer manually during the wait, the automation does not post a second reply.

  • Remove it: Click the trash icon on the automation row. This cannot be undone. Replies that were already posted stay public.

Autopilot also pauses by itself when your credits run out. The automation stays switched on and shows a Paused label until credits are available again.
