How do I move my YouTube channel into a Brand Account?

Your YouTube channel doesn't show up when a colleague or agency connects it? Move it into a Brand Account – step by step with screenshots.

Written by Thomas Danninger

Short answer: Google only offers a channel to replient.ai if you sign in as the account that owns it, or as an Owner or Admin of the channel's Brand Account. If your channel hangs directly on a personal Google account, only that one person can connect it. This guide shows how to check this and how to move your channel into a Brand Account, so a colleague or your agency can connect it too.

If someone invited you inside YouTube Studio (for example as Manager or Editor), that doesn't help: these are channel permissions, and Google's own documentation lists the YouTube APIs among the areas they don't cover. Every tool that connects to YouTube runs into this.

💡 Tip: The screenshots show the German YouTube interface. The buttons are in the same place in every language.

Step 1: Check whether your channel is in a Brand Account

Sign in with the Google account that owns the channel (an Admin role is not enough) and open youtube.com/account_advanced. Look at Move channel to a Brand Account.

  • You see Move channel to a Brand Account → your channel hangs on a personal account. Continue with Step 2.

  • You don't see this option → your channel is already in a Brand Account. Skip to Step 3.

Step 2: Move your channel into a Brand Account

You can't put a Brand Account around an existing channel. Instead, you create an empty placeholder channel (it is automatically a Brand Account) and move your real channel into it. The placeholder is deleted during the move.

⚠️ Important: Only the channel owner can do this. Take 10 quiet minutes: the confirmation screens talk about deleting a channel, and rushing is how people delete the wrong one.

2.1 Create the empty placeholder channel

Open youtube.com/account and click Create a new channel. Check that you are signed in with the right Google account.

Give it any name – it will be deleted at the end. Then click Create channel.

Google may ask you to sign in again. Afterwards both channels exist side by side under the same login.

2.2 Start the move

Switch back to the channel you want to move, open youtube.com/account_advanced again and click Move channel to a Brand Account. Confirm your identity if Google asks.

On the page Move your YouTube channel to another account, check that the channel being moved is the right one – it shows your real subscriber and video counts. Scroll down, find the empty placeholder channel you just created and click Replace.

2.3 "Delete this channel?" – the placeholder, not your channel

Google now asks Delete this channel?. This refers to the placeholder channel. Before you continue, check that it shows no subscribers, no videos and no playlists.

⚠️ Important: If this screen shows videos or subscribers, stop. You selected the wrong channel.

Tick I understand and wish to proceed and click Delete channel.

2.4 Confirm the move

The last dialog sums up what changes. Two things matter:

  • Your channel URL stays the same.

  • Everyone who had channel permissions is removed. Add them again afterwards.

Click Relink channel.

2.5 Done

Google confirms that the channel was moved. It can take up to 10 minutes until everything is updated. You can tell it worked because the account page now shows Add or manage channels instead of Create a new channel.

What survives the move

Kept

Lost

Channel name, URL and handle

Watch and search history

Description and links

Creator demographic data

Subscribers

Gift settings

Videos, views and comments

Existing channel permissions (add them again)

Playlists and community posts

The playlists section can disappear from YouTube Studio for a few hours after the move. Take a screenshot of your playlists beforehand if you want to be safe.

Step 3: Invite the person who will connect the channel

Your channel is now in a Brand Account. Give access to whoever will connect it – a colleague, your agency or a second account of your own.

  1. Open myaccount.google.com/brandaccounts, select your Brand Account and click Manage permissions.

  1. Click the Invite new users icon at the top right, enter their Google address and choose Owner or Admin. Don't choose Communications manager – that role can't use YouTube.

  1. Click Invite. The person is listed as Invited and gets an email.

⚠️ Important: The invitation must be accepted from that email before anything changes. This is the most common reason people think the move didn't work.

Keep permissions in your Brand Account

After the move, YouTube Studio → Settings → Permissions offers you a choice. Keep managing permissions in your Brand Account. Don't click Move permissions to YouTube Studio – that switches back to channel permissions, which tools like replient.ai can't use.

Step 4: Connect the channel in replient.ai

  1. In replient.ai, click Learning in the sidebar and then Add additional channels.

  2. Choose YouTube and click Authorize.

  3. Sign in with the account that is Owner or Admin of the Brand Account. If Google asks you to choose between your personal account and a Brand Account, choose the Brand Account.

  4. Tick all permission boxes, select your channel and connect it.

Troubleshooting

  • The channel still isn't in the list. The invitation is probably not accepted yet. Check the inbox of the invited address and make sure you sign in with exactly that account.

  • The wrong channel got connected. Remove the YouTube connection in replient.ai and connect again – this time choose the Brand Account.

  • "Manage permissions" isn't available. Only the primary owner of a Brand Account can invite users. Ask the primary owner.

  • It has to be quick. The channel owner can connect the channel in replient.ai with their own Google login – no move needed.
